About this tool

A random countdown timer picks a random duration between a minimum and maximum you set, then counts it down on screen and plays a sound when it reaches zero. It's ideal for games, quick-fire rounds and challenges where a predictable, fixed time limit would be too easy to anticipate. Pick your end sound, loop round after round, hide the countdown for extra surprise, and go fullscreen so the whole room can see.

How to use it

  1. Set the minimum and maximum length, or tap a preset.
  2. Pick your end sound and options.
  3. Tap Start — a random duration is chosen and counts down on screen.
  4. It flashes and sounds at zero; turn on Loop to go again automatically, or reset.

Random timer vs a fixed timer

A fixed timer always runs for the same length, so players quickly learn to pace themselves. A random countdown draws a new duration inside your range every time, so each round feels different and no one can game the clock. Reach for a fixed timer when you need a set amount of time, and a random one whenever unpredictability makes the game or drill more fun.

Frequently asked questions

How does the random countdown work?
Set a minimum and maximum; on Start it picks a random length in that range and counts it down on screen, so the time limit is a surprise. Only the starting length is random — the countdown itself is exact.
Can I see the countdown?
Yes — unlike the mystery timer, this one shows the time as it ticks down, and turns red in the last few seconds. You can also hide it for more suspense.
Can I make it repeat automatically?
Yes — turn on Loop / auto-restart and a fresh random countdown begins after each one, with a round counter to track how many you've done.
Can I use it for Musical Chairs?
Absolutely — a random length means no one can predict the stop. Keep the countdown visible as a race clock, or hide it so the ending is a total surprise.
Is it free and private?
Completely free, no sign-up. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.
